Magic Detox: Oil Pulling

Toxins, Bacteria, Fungus and Bad Breath all are damaging to our bodies and self esteem. nobody wants to walk around feeling dirty, gross or even have their self confidence shaken. I know I feel can feel quite disgusting when i am unclean, even after a shower and brushing my teeth. I don't feel my best. My solution is something crazy called Oil Pulling. Have you heard of it?
Oil pulling is the act of using cold pressed Sesame, Coconut, Olive or Sunflower oil and swishing it around your mouth for 20 minutes. Does that sound like a long time? Coconut Oil
Oil Pulling is the ancient Ayurvedic ritual of detoxing the body. Have you heard of this yet? I have tried it, and while my first time was a bit rough the ending result was amazing, First let me tell you how to Oil pull
  1. Buy good Virgin Cold Pressed Sesame, Coconut, Jajoba, Sunflower, or Olive Oil's. They will be thicker and more dense than the oil you cook with in your kitchen cabinet.
  2. Take the jar and heat to melting point if solid, or take a teaspoon of oil and place in your mouth
  3. Swish around your mouth, teeth and throat for 20 minutes. Twenty minutes can go fast if you occupy your time with someone else else.

My Journey
  • My first time, I used too much coconut oil in my mouth and was nearly gagging, I did strive to make it through the 20 minutes, but only managed 18 minutes. When I spat it out, I also expected the color to be dark, or at the very least different, but I didn't see any color variation. My jaw also hurt a little, and I suffer from TMJ, and that worried me.
  • My second day was 1000x better. I used a smaller amount of oil, cold, and let my mouth warm it up. I was able to get through 20 minutes and I didn't swish as hard and took time reading a book. Pride and Prejudice to be exact. I felt great after 20 minutes. My teeth felt cleaner than the dentist has ever got them. I had no problems with my jaw and my lips didn't need chapstick at all that day.
  • After 1 week: I felt great, I was sleeping better, without my TMJ mouth guard, my skin was clearer and my hair was a mixture of less greasy and less dry. I don't know how to explain it, I just felt clean, healthy and confident.
  • 1 Month later: I had a better overall health and my cycles were working in my favor and less painful. It was wonderful and with my new found rest at night, I had more energy and happiness to take one the day.

Make sure that when you spit out your oil, you do so into a garbage can or another bag, not your drain. It's liquid in your mouth, but the oil will re-harden into a solid and that will clog your drain. I always spit into a bag lined garbage. Don't expect the oil to have changed color, my first time I was half expected he oil to be brown or black when I spit it out, and coconut oil that is cold pressed is white when it starts out.

10 Day Full Health Detox

Day 0: Buy the perfect Oil for you. Many oils have multiple uses and benefits, so choose the one that will work best for you. Jajoba and Coconut are the two I use most frequently. Take a Before picture of your mouth and face. Keep it in a safe place. Keep a journal of your sleeping, eating habits and body functions.
Day 1: Place a tablespoon of oil in your mouth and walk to your book shelf. Find a book, relax and take twenty minutes of your morning for yourself.
Day 2: Swish your tablespoon in your mouth and go for a walk around your house, apartment, block, street or local trail. Just a short twenty minute walk.
Day 3: Swish your tablespoon of Oil and do 15 lunges, 15 sit ups and yes, you can do both at the same time. Its okay if it takes a long time, you have 20 minutes.
Day 4: While you pull toxins, dance, groove, put on your favorite music and just let go. Feel good about life, breath deeply and have fun.
Day 5: Take a break from oil pulling for a day, just feel the start of benefits. Enjoy your Day
Day 6: Resume Oil pulling, do 10 minutes of yoga, or another exercise you love. Then for the last twenty minutes of your routine, make breakfast, a delicious omelette or scrambled eggs.
Day 7: Oil pull while doing 15 lunges on each side. It's not as many as you think, and if you have any extra time, continue with your book. 20 minutes for yourself will make life a little easier.
